Ambassadörernas meeting i july- Joy, learning and beleave in the Future
At our ambassador meeting in July, we heard many positive stories from the activities in Rwanda. The summer holidays have made it possible for more children to take part in Baho Neza Education’s activities, where the days are filled with games, reading, circus, community and the opportunity to discover new talents.
When the children were asked why they come to Baho Neza, many answered:
“Because we become happy here. At home we work a lot and have almost no time to play.”
A new part of the education has focused on puberty. Many children shared that they had received lessons at school, but in English – a language many of them do not yet master. At Baho Neza, they instead learn in Kinyarwanda, which means they understand the content and dare to ask questions. Several girls also said that they now feel more confident talking about menstruation, both with our ambassadors and with their parents.
The ambassadors also see how the activities strengthen relationships within families. Several children say that they now play together with their parents at home and that they appreciate that everyone is treated equally at Baho Neza. Through an anonymous question box, the children have also been able to raise issues of exclusion and discrimination between different villages, giving important insights into what needs to be addressed going forward.
The women’s groups also continue to develop. Participants are learning to sew and make bags, skills that can both make everyday life easier and create opportunities for their own income. For the autumn, the ambassadors have planned new training sessions for young women and mothers on themes such as nutrition, self-esteem, saving, family life, the environment and physical activity.
Together, a safe meeting place continues to be created where children, young people and women are given the opportunity to grow, develop and believe in their own future.
